I neglected nothing.— Nicolas PoussinBirthday of Nicolas Poussin, born on 15 June 1594, about whom we know mostly from his friend and biographer, the famous Giovanni Pietro Bellori. He was a painter in so called classical style, much influenced by antiquities. Poussin went to Rome when he was 30 and found influential Barberini patrons. It was the time of Bernini’s glory, but Poussin chose to be friends with those of more classical taste, such as François Duquesnoy or Claude Lorraine. Coupling Renaissance with antiquity, his art of clear lines and order was actually an alternative to emerging baroque excess. He was made First Painter in Ordinary by Louis XIII, which was a great honor but from which he still withdrew to Rome, after just two years in Paris : intrigues of Simon Vouet who established the Academy and of some other prominent figures disgusted him. He died in Rome 8 years later and was buried in the church of San Lorenzo in Lucina. Self-Portrait 1650, Musée du Louvre, Paris

God knows why, I am soooo in love with my imagination of him!!
